The Moke of Goat Island.

The Island isn't called Goat Island but it did have Goats and it does have a sadly neglected little Moke which is unlikely to ever be restored or recovered. A few years ago I caught the end of a filler article on the Channel Nine News where a couple of images of this Moke flashed by. I chased up the story with Channel Nine, the item was about an island in Western Port Bay in Victoria where a herd of goats had been neglected and left to fend for themselves by the new owner of the island.

Andrew Geue

Andrew G. takes us through the restoration of his nice red Moke that he built in 2005

Mike Munro

Not an image you can unsee but not for the Moke you would erase all evidence if you were Mr Munro.

Kerrie Anne Kennerly

Kerrie Anne Kennerly is known to have a fondness towards classic british sports cars like the MG's but in an article from the Womans Day she makes mention of owning and running around in a Moke. No picture of said Moke and attempts to make any contact go unanswered.

Diana Rigg

Diana Rigg worked with Mokes in the The Avengers and had her own Moke. Although this image is most likely from the TV series I seen one and probably saved it somewhere, of her driving down a driving from her house on an island somewhere.

Imants Alfred Strauks

Not a name that too many people would recognise but better known as 'Freddie' Strauks the drummer of Skyhooks, one of the top Aussie bands across the mid '70's. Not only liked because he was good in bed, but it turns out Freddie used to also drive a Moke. This small snippet of information, no pictures yet, came about when a mature age lady saw my Moke in the streets of Richmond and commented that 'When she was 17 the drummer from Skyhooks used to pick her up and take her to gigs in his Moke.'

Gran Turismo Moke

Commissioned by Leyland in the late 70's as an alternative Moke the intention was to produce this drop over bodies in fibreglass however despite reasonable interest at the Sydney Motor Show the project never progressed past this plywood mock up that was later destroyed.

Winton Truck Museum Moke

This Moke is a major draw card of the Winton OutBack Festival's Iron Kids event. Major draw card is perhaps a bit of an exaggeration, but still it does get dusted off every couple of years and gets a few days out of the Winton Truck Museum where it lives amongst the big rigs on show. The Moke belonged to a local family who I found owned a car dealership in town and they provide it to the Outback Festival every two years when it is held and between Festivals it is on display at the truck museum

Paul Jennings and his Moke

Well known Children's book Author Paul Jennings has got himself a nice 1973 Moke in a shade of Home on the O'range and has been making a few mods to suit his tastes. He says the Moke is for driving around his country Victoria property to entertain visiting kids, but I suspect there is a little more to it than that.

BMW Hahn Moke

After leaving Bridsville and heading east on the 2011 Outback Icons trip we came across this 'BMW Moke' heading the other way as part of a World Record Attempt to pedal an electric bike, which is a contradiction when you think about it, the 1600km to Birdsville.

Anything to add?

Perhaps you own or owned a Moke that is displayed on this page, if you do recognise any of the Mokes pictured here and can offer more information and or photos to help record their history then please get in touch via the contact page.
