Derryn Hinch

Journalist and Politician, Derryn Hinch, owned not just a Moke, but the last Moke off the production line sometime in the late 80's or early 90's. In the early 90's when I first got involved in Mokes I was offered this Moke for $15,000 by the then owner who said he was working at Channel Seven on Hinch's TV show and had purchased the Moke from Mr Hinch during that time. It was the first of two Mokes in my time that I have been offered the chance to buy for $15,000 however at the time couldn't see that sort of value in them, the Factory 4WD Moke was the second one in 1997 while it was still in original condition.

Magnetic Military Moke

This rent a Moke on Magnetic Island was spotted in 2006 on a little detour some of us made on the way back from Cape York and while having a snack I wandered over to find the previous history of this Moke involved being part of the last orders of Mokes for the Australian Army. No more details available but would be interested if people have seen it more recently on the Island.

Army Moke Trailer

A genuine army Moke 1/4 ton trailer on display in Yarra Glen in 2015. Beware of imitations.

Californian Export in Gold with Merc grille

The picture looks like it came from eBay and the date on the photo is 2005.

Gambier Turquoise Export Moke

This Export still sports its original paint colour, Gambier Turquoise, and original engine but is a little worse for wear with a heavy hit on the front that has seen it patched up and painted. . It has passed through a few members of the Moke Owners Association of Victoria since this photo was taken in 2007 and now resides at the orphanage.

Very original Export from Tassie

This very original Moke was purchased from a lady in Tasmania in 2007 who I believe was the first owner and went with the new young owner, Arron I think, to Stawell. It has possibly been sold on into South Australia were I think it has appeared at the occasional show over the years, or there are two very nice Orange Exports. Other than the wheels and missing the original number plate bracket I recall it was original and well maintained and is possibly #590.

Export with tray top in UK

This Californian Export moke is pictured somewhere in the UK and has a versatile rear tray set up.

Sth Aust Export Moke RXJ 283

This Californian Export Moke is sporting South Australian rego plates but otherwise little is known of it.

The Moke Ambulance

This is the only Moke Ambulance known to exist as was set up to be used at events by a private Ambulance service in Hobart, Tasmania. The second attendant sits behind the driver while the patient lays on a stretcher along the left side with oxygen and other medical supplies are packed in around them. The seats are from a regualr Ambulance and are quite high meaning when I got a chance to drive it a few kilometres to take the photos I had to tilt my head sideways to be able to see out the windscreen. Interesting and novel but not sure how practical unless the hood and bows were removed. Still retains the orignal engine.

A Special Export

A special export Moke with some very unique features for an Export Moke that make it interesting and one of my favourite Exports. It is a rare YJBAB14R Moke, only two are known to still exist, it has a left side top fill tank, not a rear tank like the rest, and shows signs of having been converted from left hand drive to right hand drive. It went under water in the Brisbane Floods in 1972 before it left the dealership then was later sold at auction and then modified further to hold a tank, probably for liquid spraying , in the rear that removed the rear floor and back and modified the rear sub frame.

Anything to add?
