A Sad Export

A pretty sad Export Moke up for sale 2021 in North Esast Victoria that needs a lot of work to get back on the road. The engine looks like the orginal 1204 but it is sporting a Morris 1100 radiator.

Heavily Modified Export Moke

This Export Californian Moke was parked outside a Melbourne workshop back in 2010 and shows a lot of very detailed and well made customisation, unfortunately I missed getting a front on image of the Moke. I have seen it up for sale a few years later and lost track of then.

Original One Owner Export Moke

A rare find these days, this Californian Export Moke is still in the hands of its original onwer and used regualrly as a daily driver, or at least was being driven daily when these pictures were taken in 2006 in Tenterfield NSW. While the hood has been replaced with a basic black canopy, pretty everything else is the original features of the Exports that provides us with a mobile museum and useful reference of production details.

Bob's Export Californian

Another nice Export Californain that has been reasonably well maintained over the years with many of the original features still intact, including the paint work, although it does sport sunraysia rims off the later Californian and some nice chrome flute work in the bonnet. It has not been a Moke for sitting in  shed either having completed many trips, large and small, with the Moke Owners Association of Victoria

Stainless Steel Mokes

In the mid 1980's Don Lawson, the owner of a refridgration company started producing stainless steel Moke bodies as his take on solving the issue of rusting Mokes. Called the SSSuperMoke all the panels were unique and with few exceptions familiar to an original Moke formed from his own Jigs. About five or six are know to still exist on the road and in 2009 four or five completed shells and a 20' shipping container were up for sale in Brisbane from the Lawson family. M&R Smash were also involved in dismantling the genuine Mokes and transfering the parts on to the stainless steel shells

P.M.G. Postal Mokes, the Moke Mailster

In the earlier 1970's the Post Master General in Hobart had a number of Mokes converted to Mail delivery vehicles which apparently were called Moke Mailsters but nowadays we jsut call them Postie Mokes. Details are a bit sketchy but around 14 were believed to have been converted between 1970 and 1973 with the obvious modifications being the large fibreglass canopy on the back and the removal of the front side box to allow step through access on both sides. It is likely the original colour is a Dulon Savanah Green.

expat UK - Red was blue, in pieces

This Moke was bought via facebook and shipped to the UK in 2021(?) where it is under going a pretty full on restoration. The owner would be interested to hear from anyone who may recognise the Moke and can provide further information about its previous history, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. The Moke was belieed to have been in pieces since the 1970's

Postie Moke - Original Restoration

This restoration of an original PMG Moke Mailster was undertaken by Australia Post in the mid 1990's as was part of a small collection of restored mail deliver vehicles doing the round of car shows. This photo was taken at the HCVC Display Day at the old AFL Park in Waverly, Victoria. After the last year this Moke was displayed is was found to be 'misplaced' after I made enquiries about why it wasn't with the rest of the vehicles that went to the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney. It was located in the possession of an employee(s).

Postie Moke - The MIdas Moke

The Moke spends most of its life parked amongst a graveyard of Minis south of Hobart, Tasmania however it was tidied up and transported to the Minifest 2009 event held in Hobart. It is a non runner as far as I know and after retiring from the PMG service it was painted up in Midas Exhaust colours and used as an advertising vehicle outside a local franchise in either Hobart or Launceston. However this is not likely to be a genuine Postie Moke due to the build date of November 1974 and the lack of the step through sides. The rear canopy is the genuine item though.

Postie Moke - Kermit

This particular moke has been restored for sometime, more than 10 years, and at the time of writing in August 2021 is up for sale at an online auction house. The step through side boxes have been restored to a more conventional set up however the front grille still sports the unique blanking panel that most postie mokes were sporting and you can see the full length reinforcement angle iron is still under the side boxes. . The Moke is dated April 1973 and sported a 1098 from the factory which it still retains by the look of it.
