Unpolished or Polished

The cap looks best when polished and it will look very similar to the original Chrome cap but is harder wearing and will not chip/flake or crack causing rust tracks.
To save money you can order the caps in unpolished form and with some metal polish like Autosol or Brasso you can bring the cap to a full polished look in about 10 minutes of polishing. You do not need a buffing machine, just some old cloth and elbow grease.

Fitting instructions to the Moke Sunraysia wheel.

Due to minor differences in the production of each cap and more importantly the many variations in thickness of new powder coat, old powder coat and those rims that are just painted, there are some basic instructions for how to get all caps to fit properly.

First up the cap is designed to be a pressed fit into the wheel centre, it should not be loose or move about or fall out of the rim once in place. Each cap is fitted from the rear of the wheel, so the wheel must be off the Moke, in fact it is best if you can have all 4 or five wheels off the Moke when fitting the caps.

The cap should fit evenly in the centre hole but still sit proud of the rear face by about 3--5mm, depending on the thickness of the powder coat or paint. Using either a rubber/plastic mallet or a flat piece of wood, strike the cap evenly to press it that last few mm into place so that it sits flush with the rear mounting surface of the wheels.

If you have all the wheels off the Moke at the same time I recommend you try each cap in each rim until you have all 4 or 5 caps sitting approximately the same height in each rim as you select the best fit for each rim. Then follow the step above and knock them home.

As mentioned earlier, the caps nust not be loose or have movement in them or they can fall out during normal driving. If you do find a cap that is loose try switching it with another.

The New Moke Australia Rims.

The new Moke rims available from Moke Australia appear to have a slightly larger hole and do not allow these caps to be a press fit. Although I haven't tested them myself, someone did purchase them for the Choke Rims and has had to resort to some type of body/metal adhesive to get them to stay in place. http://www.mokeaustralia.com

Alternative Decals

If you are looking for something a little more that the flat Leyland Decal then a member of The Moke Forum has produced some very nice alternatives and he has excess for sale. The cap picutred has been polished using a stainless steel polishing machine so please don't expect that level of result from a hand polish, but still it shows what is possible.
