Now that I am back from my Moke travels it is time to focus on making MokeFest 2009 happen as we are only 9 months away and although actual registrations are reasonable there are still a lot of people telling me they are going to be there but obviously need some encouragement to register. One of the best stories is the Moke owner whose wife told him to get rid of some projects, including the Moke, however she had a look around the websites and now he has been instructed to get their Moke restored because they are going to Mokefest. What an understanding woman.

International Visitors
Leo and Margaret from the UK are coming back out for MokeFest 2009 and will be there in their infamous Moke so now I can say things like "...Mokes from Australia and Overseas". Leo and Margaret came out for the National Moke Muster in 2006 and were back here again in 2007 to travel around the country in their red Moke they had prepared and sent out. Unfortunately two weeks into to their big adventure the Moke was stolen and subjected to quite an ordeal before the Moke 'appeared' again earlier this year. Lets hope MokeFest and 2009 will be a better year for Moking for them and they get to see more of the country at the wheel of their Moke.

Link Automotive to Sponsor MokeFest 2009
I would like to welcome Link Automotive who are now sponsoring MokeFest 2009 and as most in Melbourne would know Bryan and Heather provide solid support to the local Mini and Moke events in the way of finances and gifts to hand out and raffle. Now is probably a bit misleading as Link Automotive offered support from the very first conversations I had with them about organising another Moke event back in early 2007.

Without sponsorship of this kind, many of the costs they cover would be borne by you the people attending or the events may not happen so please consider contacting Link Automotive for your next purchase, service or repair over those businesses not supporting Mini and Moke events.

Support
On the subject of support I would like to acknowledge Marty Bates of Office National in Tweed Heads and the Gold Coast who has been very helpful in the preparation and printing of the posters and flyers for MokeFest 2009 at very discounted prices. Another Moke owner, so Marty is friendly and happy to talk to you about your printing needs and office supplies.

Professional DVD
Another Moke and Mini nice guy just happens to be a professional documentary and corporate video maker and has heavily discounted the normal production costs to produce an hour or so of top quality footage of MokeFest 2009 that will be available for sale after the event. I am looking for Volunteers who would like to assist Dave with the production over the weekend including driving a moke so Dave can get some on the road footage. So if there is a budding Producer, Camera Assistant or Keygrip(ever wondered what they do?) coming to MokeFest, then please let me know. Also if you are pretty handy with some of the latest digital home equipment there may be an opportunity to have some of your footage included of the weekend.

Venues
I am heading up to Wagga Wagga in a few weeks to do the tour of a few more venues capable of handling the 150+ Mokes and people. I expect to attend and start to finalise some areas for the display and dinners. A couple of the more recent developments has been finding out about a motorkhana site for our 'Driving Games' and a couple of historic properties which may host the public display.

Merchandise
Currently working on organising the following items for people to buy as mementos of the weekend and look the part in some MokeFest 2009 wear.
  • Grille Badge for those Mokes in attendance and for the Moke(s) you had to leave behind.
  • Tshirt - Looking at quality T's with one of the MokeFest 2009 poster designs by Casper
  • Polo - Hoping to have some long sleeve, sun-smart, Polos or collared shirt.
  • Fleecy Jumper - Something to wear in the Moke when the days are a bit chilly.
  • Cap or Hat - Getting requests for a MokFest 2009 cap and bucket hats.

If you have ideas for what you would like to see then please let me know.
I hope to have some other speciaity items available but more on that later.

Advertising
MokeFest 2009 posters have been sent to most Moke suppliers and repairers I could find so hopefully more people will hear of MokeFest, however if you happen to be visiting one of these businesses and can't see it ask them where it is or let me know. The more people that see the poster the more likely you have to meet a Moker from your local area.

I am also planning to have the flyers available shortly to be handed out at the coming Moke and Mini displays around Australia so please let me know what events you are planning to attend so that we can make sure it is covered to promote MokeFest 2009.

In finishing...

That is enough MokeFest news for now so please take the time to register via the website or by contacting Rod O. on 0418 811 171 who will take your details. Registeration is not a commitment to attend but it helps in the planning of venues and ordering if we have a fair idea of how many will be attending. Also don't forget to arrange your accomodation as soon as possible as it appears there is another large group in town besides MokeFest and the Capri Car Club.

Regards,
Terry
