Mopokes Autocross Debut

Mopoke Makes it s Debut at Avalon Autocross
Brett Nicholson describes his first competiton in his Moke at the Avalon Autocross and his little problem with brake failure.

Mopoke now has a yellow race seat and a four point harness. Here she is with my mate Arron "Harry" Secombe's Commodore.

Mopoke and I made our Autocross debut last weekend at Avalon. I probably had the lowest horsepower there, but my times were mid-range, so I was quite pleased. I had a ball sliding around in the dirt.

I had to run with the top up because I found out on the day open cars need a window net for speed events! In hindsight it was a good idea to run with the top up because it help the dust out a bit.

The day was not without issue though. On my 4th run I nearly needed an underwear change when I went for the brakes and the pedal hit the floor. The clip holding the left rear wheel cylinder to the backplate detatched itself at some point recently. That caused the wheel cylinder to rub against the backplate and the bleed nipple worked loose, dumping all the brake fluid. After replacing the clip with a hose clamp and bleeding the brakes I was cleared to run again.

Thanks to young Kurt (about 10yo?) from the GMSC (who was very taken with the Moke!) and Gary Birt and John B from the Mini Club for helping me hose clamp the wheel cylinder and bleed the brakes fast!
