Hi Folks,
Thanls for the nice comments - much appreciated after a lot of hard work and long hours.
Just to respond to a few points asked:
I wish I knew for certain how the fire started, but I can only guess - as follows: I had fiddled around with wires to make room for a cold air duct. Then I decided to head off to the local auto store. I must have loosened or partly shorted something as the Moke was misfiring as a started off but I obstinately continued. The engine was backfiring and flames must have come out of the throttle bodies onto the tar-like soundproofing material on the bulkhead. This ignited - but at speed I did not see any smoke. Finally having burned through every wire in the engine compartment, the engine stopped and flames emanated from each edge of the bonnet. I couild have opened it up and peed on the flames with more effect than what then took palce. I used a mobile phone to call 911 for fire. The fire hall was one minute away. They took ten minutes to arrive, then stopped 50 feet away and started putting on coats, hats and masks before unrolling a hose and aiming it at the car. Talk about dozy! I watched in disbelief. I was not insured for fire either!
Now the booster question: I was aware of the remote booster possibility having worked on plenty of Rover 2000's which have them. But...
a) the only place for it was above the clutch housing anyway (unless I wanted to make life difficult and put it in a side locker)
b) I had to replace the brake master cylinder as the reservoir was melted and the seals affected
c) I picked up a master cylinder WITH booster AND pedal box for the price of a master cylinder (so basically go trthe booster free)
So... exercising my brain a little I fashioned the connecting bar from left to right pedal boxes
And...as a bonus the dashboard mounted beatifully onto both pedal boxes!
The fuel injection IS easy though there are quite few wires to connect up. If I were doing it again though I would use very short throttle bodies so I would not have to recess the bulkhead.
Be glad to answer any other questions you have.
