Hi,

I was recently asked if we could have a section like a particular one on Ausmini and i said well that is what Around the Garage is for. Anyway one thing led to another and so i decided might be easier to just refresh everyone with what to put where.

General Chat
This is for anything Moke related that doesn't fit into any other category. So sharing some Moke news, talking about mokes in general or asking questions about Mokes not covered by the Help board.

Help Board
This is for questions about a specific problem you are having with your Moke. As many people have the same problems keeping them together makes it easy for others to browse when they have similar problems. If you want to ask questions about your Moke that aren't related to a problem, then the General board is best.

Around the Garage
Intended to be an interactive way for people talk about what they are doing on their Moke(s), no matter how small or unimportant it may seem, nowadays it is called Blogging Smiley The idea was for a virtual garage so you say what you are doing or have done and others can ask you questions or annoy you for photos, just like they were standing in the garage with you.

Obviously some people have just one restoration on the go so that is their focus, but even if you are not restoring a Moke you can still just let people know what you are up to and whichever Moke(s) you have.

Registered Swap Meet
This is a for sale section only visible to the people who have registered with The Moke Forum and is intended to be a way to reward the members of The Moke Forum with access to parts and spares not yet visible to the general public. I would like to think that stuff is available at mates rates and keep it in the family so to speak, but unfortunately it doesn't always turn out that way.

Virtual Swap Meet
As above but the posts are visible to all who view the Forum

Moke Swap
A place for wanted adverts and a chance for people swap and barter for parts rather than paying money for them.

Moke and Mini Events
Can be events being organised especially for Mokes or Minis where Mokes are welcome, or just general notifications of car shows or swap meets that you think others might be interested in attending.

Out the Tail Pipe
The is for all non Moke related chat that comes up and maybe of interest to other people on The Moke Forum.

Terry,

Just a comment on these for the purposes of discussion. I wonder if there is really a need for all three of the following areas:
  • Registered Swap Meet
  • Virtual Swap Meet
  • Moke Swap

I would like to think these could be consolidated into Registered Swap Meet and the Virtual Swap Meet. Further more, I think it might be possible to simplify the names somewhat as I tend to scratch my head when I think of for sale/swap and how and where I should post the items.
I was thinking something a little more specific and direct. Perhaps along the lines of:
  • For Sale/Swap or Wanted (Members Only)
  • For Sale/Swap or Wanted (Public)

It follows the KISS principal and If I saw these, then there would be no doubt in my mind as to what the sections are really for.

Open for discussion/criticism.

Ian

I had thought the same thing before Ian, but notice that Terry has recently changed the Moke Swap section into more of a "Wanted" section, which makes it a bit more useful.

Still think it could be simplified as the title 'Moke Swap' doesn't really spell out 'wanted' to me. I think this section could be depricated and merged with the currently titled 'Virtual Swap Meet'.

It is actually called "Moke Swap or Wanted" now and the subtitle says it is for wanted ads only with no for sales posts to be included.

I do see where you're coming from though.

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback. The names are hangover for what they sections were originally intended to be but never really happened as I would have liked.

I have done some renaming and updated the descriptions to hopefully make things clearer.

I see what your original intentions were Terry, but for what it's worth I think it's a lot clearer now  Smiley

Thanks Terry. That makes a lot of sense now. Forums are all about collective and constructive criticism. It's great thing to have a forum owner/admin like yourself that listens to what its members have to say and not discard them as though to say 'you do it my way or no way'.

Thanks again for all of your efforts with this forum.

Just one question T,
Where would you post a wanted request for something you are happy to pay for?
The swap section looks like the place but it sounds like it is for no dollar/swap/barter stuff only.

Hi,

Without having to create another section, I wouldn't object to it in either the For Sale or the Wanted section even if includes "willing to pay cash."
