Replacement Side Mirrors &/or Arms
« on: June 02, 2009, 02:26:05 PM »
Have been asked a few times where I got my mirrors for this little piggy from.

Originally they were supplied from a Mini Store, but have since seen the same item in Autobarn, and have since purchased some from there locally (saving on freight).

I also had some reproduction mirror arms made up to replace some shonky ones that came with TLPIII

This pair are yet to be painted, in case someone did not want hammertone silver!

Whilst making the mirror arms, also had side wind deflector arms from the earlier model mokes made up, as neither TLPII, TLPIII or TLPIV had them!

PM me if I can assist regarding these items.

How do the mirrors handle the wind at high speeds? Do they move?

I have those mirrors and haven't had a problem with the drivers side, never really paid any attention to the passenger side one as i never adjusted it to actually look out of it. Every time i go for a drive i think to myself should adjust that but never do.

Cheers
GS

Stay in position no problem.  I have them on TLP and TLPII.  No complaints from me or any other drivers........yet.

I, unfortunately, do not have the equipment to make them, but know of an engineering workshop that does.  Simple enough I figured, so gave them the originals and asked them to reproduce. (Along with bending up the metal to make the brackets that go under the wheel spats to push them out)

He now has the bits chromed and on his display board showing previous jobs etc.

More can be made if required by anyone.  Exact replicas of original.

It optimises the position of the left mirror for the driver

I have the same mirrors, they work fine for me.

Hi,

if anyone looks/looked closely at MOKEGR, the nice blue Moke at MokeFest, you might have seen the mirror arms are mounted onto the body by using two cotton reel mounts, normally found on the gear changer. Apparently takes the vibration out of the view when idling and slightly better at pace.

This was a question raised by another fellow moker, who had spent an inordinate amount of time straightening the mirror arm on the passenger side, after some careless previous owner had bent it running into something! :P

(Until they saw that piggy's pax side mirror was bent also, then the penny dropped)

Not sure.  I purchased TLP in 1990 as the third owner, and have known nothing different!  TLPII also had bent pax arm but I have straight arms (shonky after market things) on TLPIII (until I changed them with the reproduction ones I had made)

The passenger arm on my '79 Cali is bent too. Pretty sure it was standard that way.

G'day,
They come with the bend on the left hand side other wise you can't
turn the mirror in far enough to look down the side of the moke. Alright though
if you like watching what going on on the foot path.
