Als,

Between a 1977 and 1980 Moke the only difference I know of is the rear seat mounts.

What you have is 2007 Moke supposedly measured off a 1980-82 Moke so you could have anything.

As a general rule most Moke measure up differently in many areas. For example you can get up to 30mm difference across the top of the firewall where the Windscreen mounts. between the front and rear guards is different from one side to the other on most Most Mokes.

What area in particular are you having trouble with?

Als,

Where did the fuel tank come from, with the shell or from your donor?

If it came from the donor then you will find a lot of differences as the fuel tanks on a pre 1980 are totally different to a 1980 onwards.

In a 1980 Moke you will find a cylindrical tank that has two metal 'strap' brackets and the filler was actually mounted on the side. The China Moke removes the right angle filler and fills from the top. Probably one of the few improvements I see in the China Moke is the removal of the right angle, but it is about as legal as the rest of what you are doing.

A pre 1980 tank is shaped tank to fit the profile of the side boxes and has a large filler on top. It wouldn't look pretty but it is possible to fit a early tank into a late model shell, however as your shell is not a true copy I do not know what is in the tank space.

Would a small neck top fill tank fit?

If so I know where there is one.

Als,

The tank bloke is referring to is from a 1979 Moke where the large filler hole was replaced with a smaller more conventional  hole and locking cap. This was the initial response to the ADR for locking fuel caps.

Al,

I was having a look at the photos again tonight/morning actually, and noticed the tank filler hole on your China Blue is not aligned with any of the fillers for any production Moke.

You will need to drill holes or make a custom tank.

The hole on your China Body is about centre of the sideboxes wheres production Mokes the filler on all tanks is between the 2nd and 3rd side box.

Bugger. :-)

Al,

Unfortunately I think you are going to find more problems the further into this you go.

Don't through your donor body away, it might come in handy if you want to drive.

tackle  one problem at a time and you will have it going by July.

The tank can go in next to last.

Do the sub frames fit?
