Title: My Army Moke - Not
Post by: czerial on March 29, 2007, 04:15:36 PM
Hi all here are some pics of my second moke (the first one i bought from kingaroy with three other friends - i visited netty and her family on the way back  (if she remembers)

but then i sold that and bought this one a year later!

It is not a confirmed genuine army moke, but it looks enough like one to convinve me hahahah

It still has the original 1100 in it and its fairly solid but there is of course rust in the normal moke places!

yeah thanks tim i did!

I think it looks like such a project cos of the olive drab paint work , but
really its not that bad! just need to weld a few bits of new metal into the floor and patch a hole in the gear box.

came with a mint denim hood lining from a californian too!  :D

Czerial,

Don't get too excited about the denim hood, it probably want fit anything as it would have shrunk by now. :-)

Email me the body numbers and I will tell you if it is an ex-Army Moke. But it doesn't appear to have any of the normal markings that suggest it is army.

After seeing the wonders you guys did with the last project I am sure this will come up great.

I however dont believe this is in fact a military moke. It looks more like an old moke that has been painted army green with a jerrycan holder on the back. The reasons I dont believe it is the real thing is because it is missing all of the identifying items that distinguish a military moke from the rest. These include;

1. ID plates on the pods either side with the military serial numbers etc.
2. The trailer brake indicator lights on the dash
3. Large UN style trailer plug
4. brackets front and back for unit ID plates

If you do a search I did place some photos up of the Military Moke I have and the distinguishing features are all photographed there.

Anyway the important thing is its a moke and sure to be lots of fun.

Czerial,

I think the shade of green is also wrong and the dash doesn't look like the Army Mokes I have.

On top of all that the chasis number you sent is not on the army records so I think you can pretty safely believe that you do not have an army Moke.

Happy painting,
Terry

Yeah, they wouldn't even give you a hard time if they found out that you maintained the Mini Sunshine register or that owned a very nice Mini Sunshine which was in "The Mini Experience" a few issues ago.

What!!!

You are telling me he owns a Mini    Where is that delete button.

I will have to improve the new user registration process to stop such people joining  :D

I have also altered the subject line so people into army Mokes don't get too excited.

Thanks for the nice words Chris, I am sure the regular contributors appreciate them also.

hahahha thanks for letting the cat out of the bag mate!!

Yeah thanks for changing it mate.

hey i have a rear seat in the back, im not sure if u can
see it in the pics, from experience, what sort of things do you
need to do to get the rear seat legal (or engineered). its complianced
as a 2 seater.

The back seat sort of has a tilting mechanism on the back rest, but then locks into place when upright, and thebottom pad just sort of ties to the back.

Czerial,

Do a search on seats and you will see this comes up often.

Depends on the person registering it, but the easiest way is to take it out, get it registered and then put it back in afterwards.

The actual pages from the DOTARS, the people who look after ADR's, say that because you aren't changing the mounts then it does not require an engineer certificate. However because you are not using a seat from the factory then the seat needs to pass an engineers inspection.

I would sit in your back seat and see whether it really is worth the trouble as it doesn't look that comfy.
